On 26 Jan 2019, nine committee members of OXCIA met with ten students of ‘Xinhuo’ programme, Tsinghua University during their nine-day visit to the UK. Students from Oxford and Tsinghua discussed various issues in a workshop organised by OXCIAx.
The ‘Xinhuo’ students arrived at the Oxford train station where they are received by Yutong, the director of OXCIA Connect at 9 am. After a short tour of the Mansfield College, Oxford University, the workshop kicked off at 10 am. Two students of ‘Xinhuo’ gave a presentation on their programme and answered questions. The president and directors of OXCIA introduced the society, especially its flagship programme OCLT. Students from both universities exchanged ideas about volunteering, international aid, and project management. Some OXCIA members joined the ‘Xinhuo’ team for lunch afterwards.
Students of ‘Xinhuo’ expressed their gratitude to OXCIA and described this experience as pleasant and fruitful.
‘Xinhuo’ is a programme initiated by the Communist Youth League Committee of Tsinghua University, aiming at cultivating leading volunteers in China. The members of this programme reached OXCIA as they ‘have learnt that OXCIA is a really fascinating organization, offering extraordinarily rewarding opportunities for students to make their own contributions’. Their visit to the UK is supported by Tsinghua University.
